June 10th Capital City Speedway

Sunday June 10th we were racing as part of the huge 2 day racing weekend at Capital City Speedway. 12 Legends cars showed up for the 40 lap $500 to win event. Paul finished 2nd in the first heat and won the second heat. The feature race was a great battle between Paul and Tim Fernandes with Paul briefly taking the lead with a lap and a half to go but Tim Fernandes did a good job with lap traffic to regain the lead as they took the white flag. Paul managed a 2 place finish in a very entertaining race.

June 2nd Mosport Oval

Saturday June 2nd the Giant Tiger Race team was at the fast 1/2 mile Mosport oval. The team made an at the track gear change to try to help get the car out of the corners and that seems to have caused a slight misfire. Paul finished 4th in the first heat and 3rd in the second heat. After an ignition module change , Paul managed a 6th place finish in the feature.

May 23 Capital City Speedway- 1st and 3rd for Dejong Motorsports!

Our second race of the year after last weeks rain out at Capital City Speedway. Paul and Jeff again were in the same heat race. Paul made his way from the back to finish 2nd. While running third Jeff had to run low into the infield to avoid a spinning car and soon there after had to leave the track with an axle problem. The crew was able to replace the axle to get the car out for the feature. In the feature Jeff started 2nd while Paul started 9th. Paul came through the field and had a great 2-3 lap battle with Jeff for 2nd place. After a late restart , Paul made a great pass on Paul Yarrow and went on the win while Jeff finished 3rd in only his second feature race. Jeff Dejong Hungry for his first win , and crew member "Killer" ,well he's hungry too.

May 9 Capital City Speedway

Tonight was the first race of the year for the now, 2 car Dejong Motorsports team. Paul as usual #16 car and his son Jeff in the #18 car. Paul won his heat race and in the same heat race Jeff finished 3rd. In the feature race, Paul had to dice through traffic an made it up to 2nd place but ran out of laps to catch Paul Yarrow who took advantage of a clear track and pulled out a huge lead. Jeff Dejong finished 5th in his first ever race. A great start to the year. The video is a few clips of the heat and feature race.

Back on the track for 2007

No, your not seeing double. To start the season this year, Paul will be driving a brand new Legends car and Jeff, Paul's son will be driving last years winning car. Today was test and tune day at Capital City Speedway and fresh off a winning year in F500 snowmobile racing , Jeff got the 16C car up to speed in a hurry.

Randy in Afganistan

Randy would like to wish everyone in the GT Racing team a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Randy is currently serving a six month tour overseas in Afghanistan in the Kandahar region. Dealing with the elements, Randy still has time to see Santa, and pose a few pics for the family and friends to see. Randy would like to send out a very special messege to his family. "Sabrina, Morgan, and Aidan, I miss you very much, sorry I couldn't be home for the holidays, but I will be home in the new year, and I will make up for it then. I love each and everyone of you, and thank you for all your support. With Love, Randy XOXO" We at the GT racing team wish Randy and his family the best in the New Year. Oct 7-8 Lanier Speedway ,Georgia

UPDATE 2: From Lanier National Speedway's website, Paul finished 11th of 28 cars in the A-Main of the Legends Nationals! Stay tuned..... UPDATE: From Lanier Speedway's website , Paul has won one of his qualifying races! Paul has travelled to Lanier Speedway in Georgia to compete in the INEX US Nationals this weekend. Over 229 cars are racing to get a spot in the A main Saturday night. Paul has a guaranteed starting spot in the A main thanks to a win in a Canadian Regional qualifier in Ottawa on Sept 9th. Stay tune more news and results and maybe a picture too!

Sept 21st Barrie Speedway

Mother nature took it's toll this weekend with the Ontario Legends Series race getting cancelled due to rain.

Sept 16th Kawartha Speedway

Saturday Sept 16th the Giant Tiger race team was at Kawartha speedway again for a second visit. After a good first practice the car developed a vibration that unfortunately took longer than expected to repair causing us to miss our first heat race. Paul had to start last in the second heat and made his way up to a 5th place finish. Starting spots for the feature are determined by your 1st and 2nd heat place finishes and since we missed our 1st heat , Paul again was forced to start last. After moving up to the top 10 Paul had contact twice with the 58 car causing Paul to spin and have to start last on 2 separate occasions. Paul managed a 10th place finish after a disappointing day.

Sept 9th Capital City Speedway

The # 16 Giant Tiger car was in action for the second time in 3 nights. Paul started 5th in his qualifier and moved up to second with 3 or 4 laps to go. While passing # 37 Rob Degeer,on the outside for the win, Rob slid high and we were forced to avoid an accident with him. Paul recovered to finish second.. In the feature race, Paul started on the outside of the front row, and took the lead on the first lap. Four laps later and a re-start had the #24 Andy Warbutton pass us for the lead. Three laps later Paul paid him back with a fantastic pass on the outside to regain the lead We survived another restart, and led 21 0f the 25 laps on route to our second feature win in three nights! What a week, and Sat's win guarantees the GT team a spot in the US nationals in Lanier Georgia in October. This was our biggest win, in the biggest race of the year. The team celebrated on the track, and we dedicated the win to all Canadian Forces Pers. serving overseas. This was a tough week in Petawawa, and we wanted to honour all members, and especially Randy from our team, and a good friend Mike who was seriously injured last week . Our next races are in Kawartha this Sat Sep 16th, and in Barrie on Sun Sep 24th. watch for updates

Sept 6th Capital City Speedway

The GT team raced Wed night in order to prepare for Sat's upcoming Canadian Regional Event. After a sixth and a second place finish in the heats, Paul started last in the feature. At about half way, Paul was passing for the lead, when contact was made with the #32 car who then spun out. Paul was sent to the back for being involved. In the next twelve laps we made it back up to second place and with one lap to go the yellow flag flew again. Paul restarted on the outside row and got a great start, passing Hossco racing for the win! We only lead the last lap but that's the one that we wanted. The Giant Tiger car in victory lane was great.

Aug 26th Autodrome St. Eustache

The Giant Tiger race team travelled to Quebec for the first Legends race outside of Ontario for this series. Paul has plenty of experience on this track, and it showed early . Starting sixth, Paul moved up to second place in 3 or 4 laps. From there he hounded # 24 Andy Warbutton, while being chased by points leader # 55 Steve Navratil. Paul tried to pass for the win on the last lap but just missed it, and dropped back to third. The second heat saw the # 55 leading, Paul second again, and # 24 third. All 3 cars raced closely lap after lap and finished in that order. We started the feature in fourth, and after three wild starts dropped back to sixth. Paul gained his way back up to fourth, and finished right on the heels of the winner. It was a good night for the team.

Good Luck Randy

Recently another member of the Giant Tiger Race team was deployed overseas to serve his country. Randy has been a part of the GT team for over 2 years now and has been a great contributor to the team. The Giant Tiger Race team and friends and family wish Randy all the best on a safe and successful tour in Afghanistan. We will celebrate his return in Febuary 2007.

August 12 Mosport Speedway

After extensive work at the shop since Peterborough, the team travelled to the very fast Mosport oval and ran on the same program as the Cascar Super Series. We installed new springs on the car and a new setup which resulted in a well handling race car right away. Practice was short but the car felt good. We only ran one heat race and after we started 5th, we had a great 2nd place finish. That lined us up 4th for the feature and the car was fast from the start. We finished in 3rd for our first podium finish in the Ontario Legends Series. The car was good enough that we were even a threat for 2nd but time ran out and the tires got a little too hot. It was an excellent result after some hard work by the crew. Our next race will be at the 4/10th flat track at St.Eustache on Sat. Aug 26th.

July 22 2006 Peterborough Speedway

The 2nd of two nights in a row at the old 1/3 mile Peterborough speedway. The car was loose in practice and got worse as the night went on. The team adjusted the car all night long with no success. Finishes in the heats of 8th and 9th places were follwed by a 13th place finish in the feature. We would have to find out what was wrong with the car before the next race. It was a disapointing race for us.

July 21 2006 Kawartha

The Dejong motorsports team has been busy the last few weeks with a number of out of town shows. Friday July 21'st we were at Kawartha Downs in Peterborough. It is a lightning fast track, and the car was good in practice. We finished fifth in one heat, and third in the second one. The feature was a caution filled event, and we started 5th. By half way we were in third, but got shuffled back to sixth on the re-start. We were able to gain one more spot before the end, and earned a good fifth place finish.
